Saudações do Embaixador

Greetings from the Ambassador

Welcome to the website for the Danish representations in Brazil!

Our mission at the Embassy in Brasília and at the General Consulate in São Paulo is to look after Danish interests by maintaining and strengthening Danish-Brazilian relations and partnerships though a broad range of areas, such as: political or/and economical dialogue, commercial relations and cultural collaborations.

Brazil is in various ways an amazing country, full of diversity, with a multifarious culture, incredible nature and a forthcoming population – but Brazil is also an important country for Denmark. Brazil is politically a major regional player that traditionally has had many common values with Denmark.

Besides, it is also the world’s 8th largest economy, which makes its market very interesting for Danish companies in a commercial perspective. Through the past few years, we have initiated a close collaboration with the Brazilian authorities in important areas as digitalization of the public sector and a collaboration pointed at product validation in the pharmaceutical industry. These are two areas Brazil has expressed challenging and areas where Denmark possess a special competence.

Denmark’s Crown Princess Mary and Princess Josephine mark International Women’s Day

Crown Princess Mary shared a personal story to the Danish Royal Family’s Instagram on International Women’s Day.

The story involves her youngest child, Princess Josephine, seeing a headline about International Women’s Day and wondering what it meant.

“She didn’t ask any further questions, so maybe my answer wasn’t a surprise to her.
Maybe this is something she takes for granted, but it’s not like that for many other girls around the world. And the International Women’s Day has different significance depending on where in the world you live.

77 INTERESTING DENMARK FACTS THAT WILL SURPRISE YOU

1. The country of Denmark is actually an archipelago or island group. It is comprised of over 100 islands, but not all of them are inhabited.

2. The Citizens of Copenhagen pedal a combined 1 million kilometers per day. This isn’t so surprising when you take into account the fact that Denmark has twice as many bicycles as automobiles. This fact may also be related to the fact that Denmark charges a 150% tax on all purchases of new cars.

3. Although there are no designated bicycle lanes in Denmark, there are special elevated roadways dedicated solely to bicycle usage. Another plus for bicyclists in Denmark is the lack of hills. The highest point in Denmark is only 170 meters or 557 feet high.

WHAT DO THINGS COST IN THE FAROE ISLANDS

Okay, first things first: the Faroe Islands are not cheap.

Not ‘sell your first born for a plane ticket’ sort of expensive, but it’s definitely not the type of trip that can be booked on a whim after a late night, wine fuelled dalliance with Skyscanner.

The good news however is that your big expenses are pretty much limited to accommodation, food (especially if you’re planning on eating out), and car rental. This is very much an outdoor activity sort of place, and so much of what makes this spectacular destination so wonderful remains completely and utterly free.

Margrethe’s harsh warning to Princess Mary: 'Don’t let Fred turn into his dad!'

The pair, who famously met during the Sydney Olympics in 2000, still act like a couple very much in love, their most recent set of family photos showing just how comfortable they are with each other and the wonderful royal life they have created together.

However, there are concerns within the royal house that things could easily change at any time.

In particular, it’s said Queen Margrethe has been quietly warning Mary, 49, that Frederik, 52, may well follow in his father’s footsteps and become a far less appealing proposition as he gets older.

And she would have reason for concern – the late Prince Henrik, Margrethe’s husband for 50 years until his death in 2018, was seen as a troublemaker, unhappy with his status and considered “tiresome” by many Danes, often leaving Margrethe alone to attend royal appointments without him.

Margrethe II of Denmark

Margrethe II (Danish: [mɑˈkʁeˀtə]; Margrethe Alexandrine Þórhildur Ingrid, born 16 April 1940) is Queen of Denmark and commander-in-chief of the Danish Defence. Born into the House of Glücksburg, a royal house with origins in northern Germany, she was the eldest child of Frederick IX of Denmark and Ingrid of Sweden. She became heir presumptive to her father in 1953, when a constitutional amendment allowed women to inherit the throne.

Margrethe succeeded her father upon his death on 14 January 1972. On her accession, she became the first female monarch of Denmark since Margrethe I, ruler of the Scandinavian kingdoms in 1375–1412 during the Kalmar Union. In 1967, she married Henri de Laborde de Monpezat, with whom she had two sons: Crown Prince Frederik and Prince Joachim.

Danish Royal Family

The Danish royal family is the dynastic family of the monarch. All members of the Danish royal family except Queen Margrethe II hold the title of Prince/Princess of Denmark. Dynastic children of the monarch and of the heir apparent are accorded the style of His/Her Royal Highness, while other members of the dynasty are addressed as His/Her Highness. The Queen is styled Her Majesty.

The Queen and her siblings belong to the House of Glücksburg, which is a branch of the Royal House of Oldenburg. The Queen's children and male-line descendants belong agnatically to the family de Laborde de Monpezat, and were given the concurrent title Count/Countess of Monpezat by royal decree on 30 April 2008.

The Danish royal family enjoys remarkably high approval ratings in Denmark, ranging between 82% and 92%.
