However, these global issues disproportionately affect women. Several female celebrities have utilized their platforms to raise awareness and address the issues that hinder the growth and development of women globally.

This “Harry Potter” star is an advocate for global gender equality. Watson’s female-focused humanitarian efforts resulted in her appointment as a U.N. Women Goodwill Ambassador in 2014. Watson participated in education campaigns for girls in Bangladesh, Zambia and other rural parts of Africa. Watson is also involved in the HeForShe campaign. HeForShe is a U.N. movement that aims to mobilize men to fight for gender equality around the world. She also donated £1 million to the U.K. Justice and Equality Fund, an organization that fights sexual harassment around the U.K.
